Crypto Sisyphus

This week proved to be a respite after the carnage of the previous one. With the markets languishing, we decided to represent the sorry state of crypto with a Greek legend. Sisyphus was a trickster cursed to push a boulder up a mountain for eternity. Whenever the boulder gets close to the top, it rolls back down and Sisyphus starts again. This seemed like a perfect representation of crypto.


The cover began life as a simple sketch with Sisyphus pushing a bag (of course) rather than a boulder up the slope. After studying Ancient Greek art styles and the game Apotheon, Amal got to work on frame-by-frame animations. Despite never having created a walking cycle animation before, he managed to nail Sisyphus’ plodding march up the mountain.


Dudly completed the design in AE by adding the moving mountain, the bag and the surrounding environment. Syncing the walk cycle to the changing terrain was another big challenge that took a lot of tweaking and fine-tuning. With everything complete, we added a soaring musical score reminiscent of God of War.
