Grifter Madness

Without any big crashes or earth-shaking events, we had to get creative for this week’s cover. We took inspiration from the infamous 1936 movie “Reefer Madness.” A propaganda movie released to warn teens against the dangers of Marijuana, its gloriously over the top scenes (teens try the drug once and immediately spiral into a life of degeneracy, sin and crime) are now iconic.


We reimagined the film as a precautionary crypto tale: “Grifter Madness.” It shows all the pitfalls of the space, including promised trips to the moon, degens slumped at their computers, threats to “hodl or die” and over enthusiastic spouses promising that they know what they’re doing. Amal created the sketches and then applied a classic 70’s style comic book aesthetic. 


Amal also seized the opportunity to use his newly purchased Texture Grit Supply and Debaser pack, which allowed him to mask and paint the various elements with different textures. The next step was to come up with funny captions for the images - Editor Stephen was a great help here! After adding the animations in AE and a jazzy soundtrack, the cover was complete in time for Amal to watch Argentina vs Mexico in the World Cup!


This week’s trippy ArtDrop came courtesy of Siba. The piece captures a psychedelic bicycle ride through the city at night - the chemical reactions were filmed using a macro lens while working in a lab.
