Crypto Zodiac 2022

2022 was certainly a rollercoaster of ups and downs, so we had to end the year with a cover that captured all the drama. Crypto Zodiac was born as a way to showcase the 12 biggest stars who shaped 2022’s chaotic news cycle for better or worse. 

We took inspiration from Prague’s famous astronomical clock for a Renaissance-styled, ornamental aesthetic. Each cover star is represented by a corresponding Zodiac. You’ll find Elon as bullish Taurus, the Bogdanoff brothers as Capricorn, Do Kwon and LUNA as Gemini Twins and, of course, Lionel Messi as the Sagittarius archer. Look out for the Redlion Lady styled as Virgo! 

Although Amal initially planned to create 12 different artworks manually, he realised that this would be a superhuman task in just 24 hours and settled on Midjourney instead. Even this came with a unique set of challenges as we came to understand some of the software’s limitations. Still, an AI-heavy cover felt appropriate as 2022 will likely be remembered as the year when AI tools shot to prominence. It was a slow news week as the year wound to a close, but Gazette took a look at the biggest influencers of 2022, the biggest c**ts and the worst political NFTs ever created. 

BLUEPRINT by Crashblossom was the last ArtDrop of the year. Using public domain internet imagery, the piece is a gloriously warped and abstracted representation of high-tech neural networks.
