Back in 2017 I began listening to vaporwave. The music, the visuals the ｆｅｅｌｉｎｇ. It got to me. I remember sitting down one night and creating the gasstation piece. Which has been the origin of Dutch tide. The gas station series stands for interpretation. Meaning that I tried to design it in such a way that it reflects your thoughts and feelings. The composition is set up in such a way that your eyes go through the whole image but you always return to a focal point that doesn't really exist. Symbolising reflection and emptiness. Its set on one plane, meaning, you have foreground background and midground. I put the gas station on the mid ground which is where traditional japanese art comes together with dutch fundamentals. Neon colors, vague vocal points and emptiness are at the core of this piece. This is what resonates with people. This is what the art of Dutch tide is like.

The King of Voxels

Issue #34 was released on Sunday, 9th of May 2021, during week 18 of 2021. The cover was named “The King of Voxels”, designed and executed by now Grand Master Dudly.

It had been four years since Larva Lab’s first NFT release “Cryptopunks” and two years since “AutoGlyphs”. At this point, after much anticipation, LL’s 3rd project “Meebits” had arrived! For the first time, their project was rendered in 3D. Nevertheless, they managed to keep a familiar and charming Larva Labs style! 

As is expected for a caliber of this magnitude, Meebits came with many great usage possibilities and perks for the new owners. Except for a leak of Token IDs, which allowed @Nietysche to write a contract to exploit the Meebits mint contract and produce only the most desirable Meebits. As always, Twitter was on fire!

During this week we covered the significant project “Digital Zones” after Redlioneye spoke with project director Mitchell Chan himself. On 5th of May, 2021, about a month after the initial announcement, Uniswap V3 was launched. 

In other news, a hacker managed to sneak into the Rari Capital ETH pool and drain 2600ETH, and Sudoswap was released, catering as a trustless way for two parties to swap assets, supporting all your fav tokens & NFTs right out of the box. 

Cover art was built from voxels after LL’s Meebits drop. What better opportunity for the coronation of our new mascot “Bahdoon’’? Art director Dudly had loads of fun with voxel building from scratch, making all the traits from head to toe and even teaching Bahdoon some fancy dancing moves! The character was animated with great ease using the online tool mixamo.com. Also of note, this was the first time we introduced an QR code on our cover, enabling AR animation with dancing Bahdoon. Try it out!
