Working in 2D, Zakalwe_x loves to explore sci-fi themed art. A colourful bold graphic style brings his creations to life, from his ongoing PUNX series to the Space Reavers collaboration with the ETH-MEN. Zakalwe loves to delve deeper into the storylines around the characters and worlds he creates, giving them a greater depth over time.

Issue #40 was minted on Sunday the 20th of June 2021, week 24 of the year.
With the cover art being a beautiful 3D creation by Dudly utilizing Cinema 4D. We will forever remember this week as it was when Sir Tim Berners-Lee announced his NFT drop in collaboration with Sotheby’s. An incredible win for the whole NFT space as the technology was embraced by the creator of the internet.

Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) was getting ready to drop their Kennels and Mark Cuban was in the spotlight because of his public endorsement of NFTs and Defi. At the time, NFTs were trending upwards faster and faster and excitement levels were high. A lot of questionable NFT drops happened as well. 

We did our best to display all of that with the pickled jar metaphor as seen on the cover. Inside the jar, we can see one of the said questionable projects at the time: a picke NFT that was being pumped. He’s accompanied by an Ape, an old computer, a little dog house and our friend Mark Cuban.
Each one has its own meaning. The cover was created in a really tight timeframe. We abandoned ideas that wouldn’t be as cool looking when made within those time constraints. However, despite that, it turned out to be a unique and amazing cover.

Times were different back then as we were still early in the space, but if you examine these covers in chronological order it’s apparent that the perfect storm was brewing for NFTs.

The ArtDrop for issue #40 was “Red Lion Eye 40” by the artist Zakalwe_x, who loves sci-fi genre and is the creator of “PUNX” and “Space Reavers”.
