Sumi-e FUD 🖌️

Issue #54 was published on Sunday, September 26, 2021, week 38 of the year. This issue conveys the emotion of the market when Evergrande was expected to collapse. The cover was painstakingly created using the Sumi-e technique by Dudly.

The week was clouded with a mix of China FUD regarding the Evergrande crisis, another Chinese Bitcoin ban (#19 in history), and the La Palma Volcano eruption. Evidently, the mood of the week was dark. Evergrande, the property market giant from China, was speculated to collapse and bring down the global economy, which, in turn would have affected crypto as well; Ethlings Universe went into stasis after soft rug; Gary “The Sheriff” Gensler went after crypto under the guise of “investor protection,” and to top off the week there was a massive volcanic eruption in La Palma, putting thousands of inhabitants in despair. 

The Purgatorial environment in the artwork depicts the various events in Sumi-e, a traditional technique used in East Asian paintings dating back to 960. The animals making their way on the BTC tunnel are the Chinese Zodiac signs from the years that China tried to punish BTC. As you know, BTC continues to flow unaffected by the Chinese measures at this point. In the surroundings, you see pandemonium ensuing with the collapse of Evergrande; and in the distance, you see a volcanic eruption in La Palma. 

FUD has always been a looming cloud over crypto and NFTs in general, but there is “FU” in “Fun” too. Let’s keep it all balanced and work our way through the dark times.
