The Pandora Papers 🏺

Issue #57 was published on Sunday, October 17, 2021, week 41 of the year. Pandora’s papers took the world by storm and we had to capture it in our cover by Dudly and Amal.
A highlight from the week was Coinbase announcing an NFT platform to arrive soon. The company opened a waitlist for registration, which exploded to over 2 million sign-ups quickly! Yes, the adoption is on, baby! 

If you love Mickey Mouse then the project Free the Mouse is something you shouldn’t have missed. Free the Mouse claims to be a generative fine-art initiative that will bring together academics, developers, researchers, and collectors to coherently work towards a future of fair use protections.
If Pandora was alive today, she would confirm it was a bad decision to have let the worldly ills of life escape from the box. Would she say the same of the 2.94 terabyte data trove that exposed the offshore secrets of wealthy elites from more than 200 countries and territories? We didn’t think so. So we slipped her into the role of modern-day hacker perched on a rooftop probing through data jungles. 

The idea of a hacker came after a long sketch session involving the original Pandora in a tunic with laurels in various situations. That version wasn’t fitting in and needed a twist. We hunted down some inspiration from in-game artworks of WatchDogs 2. The aesthetic was perfect for the storyline. 
References are racked on top of each other in every direction possible: Sheikhs and Putins in that villain blood, House of Fraud giveaways exposed by Pandora, Hidden in Noise NFTs glitching on the screen, and Coinbase NFT platform advertised on the billboard.

 The artwork was frame-by-frame animated in some parts and was then run through AE for danker animations.
Crypto and NFTs are in that stage where positivity should triumph over the other stories so that more people understand and believe in its philosophy. 

The ArtDrop for issue #57 was “BOXHAUS#002: Chapel of Hope” by the artist Padid, who is also interior and graphic designer. Padid’s works are deeply ingrained with his experiences in life.
