This was our first artwork to feature arguably the most famous crypto meme of all. The bear market continued to bite, depriving investors of their fortunes. The cover depicts a quivering, weeping frog character condemned to flip burgers in Mcdonald's. He brandishes his smartphone, showing the 1 million Twitter followers he amassed back in the glory days.

After mulling over different concepts, Dudley came up with the bankrupt frog concept at 2 am. From his initial sketch, we added a series of subtle animations including the tears welling in our destitute star’s eyes, his body shaking and the quivering lips. Given the litigious tendencies of Pepe creator Matt Furie, we decided to name our cover star Jose.

You’ll also notice that Jose’s Twitter profile picture is framed in a hexagon, a reference to this issue’s lead article. Twitter decided to incorporate NFTs into the platform. Verified pfps would now appear in a hexagonal frame. The idea received a mixed reaction but was doubtless a big step towards mass adoption.

Issue #70’s art drop was a fantastical piece by Alex De MetaLisa. “Fly Away” evokes a soft dreamscape and encourages viewers to reminisce while awaiting a new beginning.
