Worms Robbed 🐛

Sunday 6th February saw the release of Issue #73, which was largely defined by the massive Wormhole hack.

One of our ‘busiest’ covers yet, the artwork for #73 is packed with detail. Although the initial concept was to design a bank robbery scene, we quickly settled upon the idea of the worm. A long-limbed hand stretches through a series of wormholes to snatch some ETH before retreating. The animation is silky smooth but was a challenge to create in a limited timeframe!

The monstrous hand is certainly the most attention-grabbing feature on the cover, but this was an eventful news week and there are lots of easter eggs for the observant. Goofy animations of Mark Cuban, APE DAO and Gamestop all put in an appearance in this warped, underworld hellscape.

Taking inspiration from the cover, #73’s main article was all about the hack, the stolen 120 ETH and the massive $10 million reward for more information. It also explored the risk of cross-chain applications.

The ArtDrop for #73 was a surrealistic painting by Eirdís. ‘Inception’ is a mesmerising and completely organic piece guided by imagination. Eirdís began with random lines that informed each other in an ongoing dialogue towards the final creation.
