Uncle Ape Adventures

Issue #79 was released on 20th March, just as excitement around $APE reached its peak.

Although we’d already designed a BAYC cover for the previous week’s Gazette, Yuga Labs yet again managed to dominate the news. We needed a cover that showed the ecstasy (not to mention wealth) of BAYC holders suddenly receiving a windfall of $APE. Red suggested one of Carl Barks’ legendary “Uncle Scrooge” paintings and Dudley got to work.

The original painting shows Scrooge McDuck and friends cavorting in a vault full of money, but we had to make some changes. Uncle Scrooge was transformed from duck to ape, and his nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie became a Dickbutt, Meebit and a Coolcat. Donald Duck turned into a tractor driving Punk.

You’ll notice references to other articles scattered amongst the money, too. A regal portrait of Prince Vitalik lies on top of a coin pile, a Tom Brady jersey hangs on the wall and none other than Snoop Dogg himself swings from the ceiling smoking!

Gazette opened with “5 Things You Didn’t Know About $APE” and went on to discuss Snoop Dogg’s NFT master plan. This week saw Vitalik feature on the cover of TIME which provoked an…interesting response on Twitter. We also covered the $10 million gamble on LUNA’s future (which now seems especially prophetic) and yet another Pepe lawsuit.

#79’s ArtDrop was an ethereal piece from Paradigm Stories. It tells the tale of a girl trapped in illusion, desperately trying to escape and start again.
