If the last few weeks in crypto hadn’t been bad enough, the space was dealt another blow when Sartoshi (the mastermind behind MFers) decided to leave the community. Sartoshi was creative, welcoming and valued, so we knew what we had to do: this week’s cover would be dedicated to them.

We settled on a “Where’s Wally” theme consisting of an office full of busy MFers oblivious to the fact that their beloved boss had left the building. Amal brought Dudley's initial sketch to life, even though this isn’t his usual art style and hand drawing a scene like this is time-consuming, to say the least.

The simple animation style harks back to Issue #35, with speech bubbles popping up around the office. Sartoshi may be gone, but the industrious MFers keep working, planning and building in his absence. That was the kind of sentiment we needed to see us through the bear market.

A tribute to Sartoshi led Gazette, but we also explored some of the negative feelings across social media, with some accusing the artist of executing a slow rug. Elsewhere, our interview with Colborn (co-founder and director of A Museum for the Metaverse) covered everything from museum operation to how NFTs could change the world.

This issue's ArtDrop came courtesy of Rizal RogArt, an artist specialising in incredibly detailed pieces with a limited colour palette. ‘Fungus’ portrays a face surrounded by mushrooms and framed against the rising sun.
