NYC: Vampire Chronicles

Issue #93 was released on Sunday 26th June.

The two big stories this week were the NFT NYC event and the ongoing controversy between Ryder Ripps and Yuga Labs. Naturally, we decided to combine the two in a comic book style not seen since issue #31. This noir tale follows a Bored Ape on their way home from NFT NYC only to be ambushed by a vampiric Ryder Ripps.

Ripps drains the blood from the stricken Ape. Later, a mob gathers around the crime scene just as a detective from the OpenSea squad looms over the corpse. The cover has strong Gotham City vibes and Amal was inspired by a combination of Batman and Morbius comics.

The final frame presented the biggest challenge. We had to get the staging right and arrange all the elements into a coherent scene. Although the initial plan was to use minimalistic animation, Amal added a parallax zoom to panel 5 to really nail that dusky, urban noir feel. 

Look closely at panels 2 and 5 and you’ll find references to the week’s big articles; Unfollow Your Idols, Bill Gates Optical, Burnberry, eBay Origin sale, and Joyworld. 

We included a full breakdown of all things NFT NYC in Gazette, along with Yuga Lab’s assorted missteps and controversies. A profile of JoyWorld injected some much-needed joy after another week in the bear market.

The ArtDrop for #93 was a striking photographic piece from Kangoo. It’s all about confidence and how, “when your confidence dies, you die with it.”
