Issue #94 went to mint on Sunday 3rd July as the world waited with bated breath to find out whether we were entering a crypto winter.

Preparation is everything, so we decided to show a colony of ants storing supplies ahead of a punishing winter. This cover began life as a hastily sketched drawing which Dudley refined into a fully functioning ecosystem. 

The insects horde everything; crypto, NFTs and, of course, RedLion Gazettes! The ants on the surface are exposed to the harsh climate (look for signposts showing the decline of ETH, a “gas” station and even a buried WAGMI notice board). A small boy (representative of our inner, creative child) drops new NFTs into the terrarium.

The animation was the trickiest but most entertaining part. Dudley began with the simple loop around the child. Keeping the eggs flowing on a seamless loop was a challenge and the ants above the surface needed a little additional animation.

This cover also comes with a hidden meaning. The ant’s existence is controlled by a figure from above. They seem independent, but their world is being manipulated - does the same apply to crypto?
