Inspiration from Tradition: The Beauty of Azulejo Tiles
This time, in honor of the Non-Fungible Conference (NFC) in Lisbon, we've crafted something truly extraordinary - a legendary gazette cover that marries tradition with digital innovation. Our inspiration for this unique endeavor was Portugal's beloved azulejo tiles, a centuries-old art form cherished for its distinctiveness and versatility. We saw in azulejo a reflection of what the NFT space embodies: uniqueness, creativity, and an invitation to make your mark with a team that has stood the test of time in crypto since 2020.
Faux tiles and mishaps
At first, the idea was to take fake tiles that were painted white, which is what Dudly did, carrying them all the way from Prague to Lisbon. Unfortunately on the way these were left behind on a street where it quietly sits waiting for a faux tile enthusiast to pick them up. There was no time to sulk over the loss so it was time to improvise, and so Dudly made a visit to the Leroy Merlin where he found real tiles to replace them. We have to say they were quite bulky, as they weighed around 7kg in total.
Painting tiles, making frens
We took the tiles everywhere we went, and made frens who joyously painted and made their marks on these tiles. This was a big hit at the picnic we had organized, alongside the pizzas and beer of course. Being the only publication that records NFT and Crypto history weekly this sure was a profound way to record live with everyone else who enjoys and supports the community.
From Physical to Digital
"We wanted to ensure that this extraordinary creation could be shared and enjoyed by all, irrespective of geographical constraints. So we scanned the entire azulejo tableau and transformed it into a 3D digital masterpiece. Now, everyone can appreciate the intricate details, the play of colors, and the stories that each tile holds, right from their screens."
This issue will remain close to our hearts as all other Gazettes we have worked on but especially more because of the hearts and hands that were involved in the making of it. We will continue to push what's possible through publications, and will always ensure that it remains vibrant, thoughtful, and observant in its nature.
We are already excited about how differently we will be creating the next Travelling Gazette!
