A week full of surprises, some good and some not. There were the apes crashing, NFT influencer Elena admitting to tracing works for her drop; the upcoming book by CryptoPunks; Titan the submersible that imploded; a military coup by the Wagner group in Russia; an a call for a UFC match between Elon Musk and Zuckerberg and finally another week not without a rug.
Initially, The idea was to create this week's Gazette artwork in a minimal typography style. What we didn't know at that point was how much work can sometimes go behind the most minimal of results that you see: a lot of thought and sweat at times. Once we had the words to be used in this minimal artwork Dudly set out to create sketches for each of them.
The following were the different sketches for the words:
-Art (art theft by influencer Elena)
-Apes (dipping of BAYC)
-Sub (Titan submersible implosion)
-Fight (UFC match between Elon and Mark Zuckerberg)
-Rug (depicting several rugs that have become a core part of NFTs)
-Book (CryptoPunks' book)
-Coup (Military coup in Russia)
These went through several different iterations before these final sketches. Once the sketches were ready and sure Dudly set out to animate them. What was thought to be a simple cover artwork turned into a tedious work that needed very careful animation and that's what Dudly put into it.
The animations were finished and to it we added the SFX to bring the work to juicy life. We made the OE Gazette have 'ART' as the cover artwork, as isn't everything art or in the name of art. To another week of great art and absolute banger Gazette!
