We are constantly trying to think of how to innovate in ways in which we depict the news on our cover artworks. The interactive cover artwork of Gazette 125 'Checks in Flux' made us realize that our senior developer Qruz is also keen to explore the artistic avenues within coding.
When the discussions for the cover artwork started we were nowhere near the decision to make a point-and-click adventure game. But once the idea was put forward we could not let it go. Dudly is an avid gamer and has the experience of playing many games he also was interested in creating one for the Gazette cover.
The story we were going to cover was Snowfro minting new Squiggles to be auctioned or gifted. It was a simple storyline but we saw the potential to turn it into an adventure game. Dudly created the game plan and how the game would proceed. Once we had the blueprint we set out to create the artwork required for the gameplay.
Creating an artwork is one thing, creating an artwork that needs to be animated is another thing, but creating an artwork that needs to be turned into a fully playable game is a whole different beast.
We managed to create the artwork according to the instructions Qruz gave us. Creating a game in less than 4 days by just 3 people is probably not unheard of but I can assure you that it's definitely a crazy task to take on. We did it eventually, and on time. There were surely some in-game weird glitches which we believe are now part of the experience.
It's really heartwarming to know that many played this game and really loved it! Our confidence in interactive Gazette covers continues to grow, and we can not wait until the next one!
