It was a week with the historic turn of events for NFTs as Yuga Labs acquired the IP for Crypto Punks and Meebits from Larva Labs. Who saw this coming? What does this mean to these projects? Only time will tell us.
The news came like a storm and the emotions of the community were mixed. Some saw this as an opportunity for the projects to grow under the skillful management of Yuga Labs while others saw this as a coalition between two giants to take PFP projects to the next level. Of course, there were those disheartened by this forfeit as there was grueling rivalry between these projects. When this news hit us we had several ways to build this concept, some of which are shown below.Â
What would be a non-aggressive way to show this acquisition, we thought. Lo and behold we had the fish eat fish concept cooking. A fat BAYC fish gobbling up the little punk fishes was drawn out. We set out to cover this in a children’s book illustration style, as it is in fact a story that many generations to come will hear about as the tide that changed NFTs.
The artwork started with getting the right kind of brushes to get the texture that many of these styles have. Once that was in and the color palette decided we build another iconic cover for Redlion Gazette. The cover is partly animated using frame by frame for the Ape fish and stitched together beautifully with other animations in AE. It gives great pleasure and thrill to be exploring several different styles and trying to get it right within a fixed window of time, and of course, it comes with its own problems but finding solutions to those is the adrenaline we get a fix out of.Â
A slow week turned out to be historic. What stories will the coming week have for us all? Wait we must!
