This week’s cover is to honor the revolution that is taking place in Iran following the tragic demise of Mahsa Amini. We convey our condolences to those grieving her absence.
It’s always in the nature of Redlion Gazettes to cover important world events. This absolutely requires more attention and will go down in history as a critical moment in Iranian governance. The first thought that came to our minds was the famous graphic novel “Persepolis” by Marjane Satrapi, which tells her own story of growing up in Iran and how conflicting the ideologies of the growing youth were against what was imposed on them by the extremist regime. We, in no way, condemn religion as religion can always be practiced in peace and harmony, but when it crosses its limits and starts to act out of power things are going to take a bad turn.
We took to the drawing board after sifting through several ideas and sketched out a scene showing Mahsa wearing the veil, but still being hounded by the authorities. After summoning enough courage she removes the veil to much more uproar from the authorities’ side. This is quickly suppressed by the movement of the people shown by the screaming people that have emerged from her free-flowing hair. This is what we hope to see in the coming days. This isn’t a protest against wearing hijabs but a protest to claim back the power of an individual in society. That he/she/they have a choice as to whether or not to abide by dogmatic rules.
We hope the world will continue to show support for this protest, and not think that it’s happening in a far-off place because at the core of many governing bodies there is a thirst for absolute power. We urge all our readers to take a strong stand against injustice wherever in the world it is.
