Cover Story

Punks To The Rescue

This week’s cover depicts how Crypto Punks may have once more come to the rescue of an NFT market that was slowly going into sleep mode. Is the bull market around the corner?

The sale of the Ape Punk took us all by surprise. In a market that was primarily fueled by unsolicited gms, recycled cringe memes, and pasta tweets, this sale was a breath of fresh air. We took to our war room to decide how we could depict this, of course in a way we have never done before.

Red stormed into the cover discussion saying we should do it in graffiti style, whatever the “it” may be. Once we had the style decided we went on to discuss the “it” or the concept. After a fair round of ideas, we came to the decision that we’ll show the Ape Punk as a rescuer descending down from the skies to help NFTs drowning in a flood. This marriage of ideas worked perfectly as hurricane Ian was unleashing destruction around the southeast regions of America. We also decided that the environment we put this in will be a large wall in a flooded city getting tagged by an anonymous graffiti artist.

For style, we referenced the works of Barcelona-based artist Aryz, who has a stellar portfolio of street graffiti artworks. The hardest part was drawing the Ape in such a way that it didn’t look like a Bored Ape.

After several iterations, we settled finally on the current version you see. We gave the ape an orange uniform to wear on the inside as he was on a rescue mission. Going by the expression you can clearly see that Crypto Punks are all about love for the NFT community. In the water we have slid in several references from the last week: a floating apple logo upfront to show their failure in incorporating NFTs well into their policies, a Bowie shock symbol to show the failed attempt of Opensea to rebrand their logo for the occasion of the Bowie drop, and an “A” far right in the corner to represent the infamous Azurbala drop that did not go quite well for them.

Once the artwork was finished Dudly took it to the next level to blend it in with the environment. After it went through his manipulation lab we had the Ape Punk and NFTs on a giant wall by the water in all glory.

If you think Crypto Punks are bringing the bull market back leave a thumbs up in our comments section! See y’all next week frens!
