This week’s Gazette is the 1st interactive digital magazine in NFTs. We have always pushed the boundaries of what’s possible with publications through what we do. This was another day we took it to the next level and did something never done before.
The hottest topic in town the past week has been the Checks mania surrounding the Checks VV project by Jack Butcher. That thought had been slowly flaming up, but one that was not expected was the backlash Flux and Ryan Carson received. This was well covered in our article about what went down but in short Ryan Carson and the team went ahead without the consent of their “investors” to announce publicly reveal who they are. This did not sit well with the investors because one, they didn’t approve of this, and two, the said amount mentioned as minimum investment was not what they had agreed upon. Eventually, as the drama heated up the investors slowly declined and refused to be associated with the project anymore. The most interesting part about this for me though, was that nobody knows what this whole project was about, and will we ever?
We decided to marry these two stories and create the cover. We ran through several ideas but none were really interesting. In the end, Dudly had the idea to create an interactive cover that is a game. This way we weren’t going to just animate the burn mechanism of Checks VV, but progress the game in that formation. Incredible idea, but now who was going to execute it? Our lead developer Qruz steps up. Legend. We knew he loves to beat a challenge, and he exactly did that.
"Dudly called me at roughly [insert not a working hour] with an "idea", he basically wanted to take a break from animation and give me more work (usual). The challenging part wasn't the technicals but how to make the game enjoyable, hard, and fun at the same time. After a couple of iterations and game mechanics tweaking we were happy with the result, the legendary cover was white, and normal was in a dark theme. Everything was perfect.
Then, Dudly called me (again) with another "idea", remove the white theme and make the main board drawable! I love challenges, so I accepted. We ended up with a complete game and a side game at the beginning."- Qruz
Once again we brought you something that you never expected, and this is what we love to do and continues to drive us to innovate and create. Now that we have one more creator on the team we look forward to expanding what can be possible with cover artwork. We will be back next week with another great Gazette that captures and freezes history on the blockchain.
