It doesn't matter the number of issues we have under our belt making cover artworks, deciding the concept at the very last minute and executing it will always remain a challenge.
We had another artist in mind for the last week but due to some technical reasons on their side, we couldn't host the artist. At first, our thought was to create the artwork ourselves as it would be impossible to find another artist at the last minute. Fortunately Dudly remembered Sara whom he had met at the NFC Lisbon. Sara is a brilliant illustrator and also an ardent learner looking forward to experiencing newer pastures. We quickly got in touch with Sara and explained the challenge at hand, and to our surprise she accepted it wholeheartedly.
Once that was out of the way we went on to explain the week's events and the references that we will have to include in the cover artwork. The community was coming down from the highs of the Deekay x Cozomo x Base collaboration that had over 50k mints and an accumulated $1M+ revenue. The launch had several hiccups and hurdles but they overcame it all to be a grand success.
We knew that this was the event to be covered alongside several other news of lesser significance. Due to time constraints, we decided to help Sara out with the rough sketches. Dudly prepared them, we handed them over to her and patiently waited for the results. It depicted as seen below Cozomo and Deekay at the beach building sand castles of the Federal Reserve. In the far background, at the sea, you can see the censor"ship" trying to crack them down.
Sara was really professional with the collaboration and kept us updated at all times with the progress. This was such a breather as the collaborations can get quite tricky with artists who aren't used to these types of situations.
Eventually, the artwork was ready after a couple of tweaks. I went ahead and animated it with some subtle movements for both the kids, toucan, ships and ambient waves. Once the music and SFX were added we were ready to ship it!
It was another week of experiments with new artists creating the artwork. We have to say that there is a fun challenge in this process for us and the creators too. Looking forward to all the experiences that lay ahead! That was a hat-trick!
