A week has gone by and things look like it’s slowly climbing up the steep slope… is it a pump? Is it an illusion? Only time will tell. Until then head to your nearest cinema and watch the family-movie Dopest Punk, full of drama and entertainment.
It was a slow-slow week and nothing exceptional had happened except for the Ronin hack and the Azuki Airdrop. Of course, there was Calladita that we dearly wished to cover. The first thought was how do we incorporate film and crypto? We thought we should present the community with something more, some upliftment that’s for all too. What better way to uplift than to give hopes for a pump? We took to the board with ideas that can incorporate these themes. At first, came the idea to present an iconic logo with crypto inspiration, which then slowly funneled into making our own movie poster, and that eventually came down to taking a famous movie and pumping in some crypto.
We had The Godfather, Ghostbusters, The Shining, and several others lined up. We twisted and stretched the titles to make something interesting. There was “The Ethfather”, “The Pumping”,” Gone with the Dip” and so on. Eventually, Dudly found the perfect movie, with the perfect poster and a title that almost welcomed a “pump”-- Forrest Gump. It was decided immediately that the poster would be of a movie named “Modest Pump” (later which would change to the “Dopest Punk” due to our overflowing enthusiasm and hopes for crypto’s future), and the shining stars would be Vitalik, Satoshi, and Pepe who resigned from the movie at the last minute.
The sketches were confirmed and the style was decided, so we set out on making the artwork. The artwork was mostly painted in Photoshop with the super cool brushes by the talented Loish, and some textures that were added using brushes on Procreate which was difficult to create in Photoshop. The most challenging part was of course painting the fur which I had never ever before done. I watched a couple of videos that said the best way to do this is to paint each strand of the fur, with underlying layers blocking the different values for contours. Well, that was a cue to start immediately and I think I’m really happy with the result I ended up with.
The concept being a calm movie poster we didn’t have scope for much animation, especially with the stars sitting on a bench like waiting for a bus to arrive or something. Yet, we gave it some animated touches here and there so as to bring the poster to life, with a beautiful soundtrack to accompany it.
The mother of all pumps is what we wish to manifest and we hope we haven’t jinxed. The charts looked promising as we were working on the artwork… is the pump coming frens?
We will be for sure, next week with another cool cover!
