The cover for issue 82 was created as a homage to Elon Musk after the news he bought Twitter shares broke out.
Last week we decided early on the concept that will make it to the cover. There was no news hotter than the one about Elon joining Twitter. Given his active history on Twitter, it was only surprising that he didnât buy them all out! We took to the board to get some ideas brewing, and there were many suggestions that would have all had Elon in his essence. We let the concepts marinate a bit, and in the end, decided to do one connecting Elon and memes. We all know the love Elon has for stealing memes, and the importance of memes he emphasizes in todayâs world.Â
It took very little time to connect the dots, and when we did we had Elon Musk, the Chief Meme Officer of Twitter ready for all your memetic content on the internet. We found that the Uncle Sam poster from the World Wars asking young lads to join army was the perfect imagery to be inspired by. âI WANT YOU TO POST MEMESâ, now how could it get better than that.
The artwork was decided to be done with an aquarelle technique, which was quite new to me. My only experience with watercolor was doing Felix Schienberger type paintings that required you to be as erratic as possible. This was in no territory like that. Yet, we tried our best to execute it in that style and, after critical directions from Dudly and some sweat later we had Elon in his spacesuit ready to take on the internet.
If you look close you can see the different companies of Elonâs interest and ownership branded into the artwork: Doge doggo, Paypal harness, Tesla shoulder guard, Twitter pendant, Open AI, and others. The icing on the cake was of course the animation and soundtrack. The soundtrack is really well mixed and itâs hard to say that they were all sourced separately.
We hope you enjoyed this cover as much as we did making it! Next week we will be back with another cool cover frens!
