This week’s artwork depicts the scandalous events that went down in Crypto the previous week. In the last 2 years, we have seen the best and the worst of crypto and hopefully, there will be lessons we will learn from these events.
The SBF-FTX scandal came in the wake of a bear market that was fairly doing well, standing against tall disruptions. The tweets slowly bringing this scandal to light caused a major outbreak in the community and have created yet another question mark in the books of those who are yet to adopt crypto.
We took to the board room with events continuing to unfurl as we were mapping out a concept. We decided we would feature the bedroom of Sam Bankman-Fried as pictured during the various stages of the fallout. Starting with an orgy scene that involves his “core” team members from FTX; second, we see Sam starting to beef with CZ over the liquidity issue; third, Sam falls asleep while his phone continues to receive messages from CZ who has decided to come over and talk it out; the fourth scene is of CZ and Sam in a heated probing session; fifth, we have Sam who wakes up to find CZ has ghosted him leaving a text and finally we see that Sam has packed and is ready to leave for the Bahamas.
Once we had the basic sketches we went on to ideate how we can make these scenes more interesting with the text messages that he will continue to receive throughout the different scenes. We had a rough idea of what they should be and the chronological order of the messages before we set out to finish the artworks. Even though we thought at first it would be fairly easy as there wouldn't be many changes in the scenes, as always when it came to the meat it was quite tough. We brought in several references of the rekt Web 3 companies like 3AC, Celsius, and Luna into the pictures. We wanted each scene to have different objects populating the room.
Once the artworks were created and the different lighting adjustments were done to show the mood and day/night we set onto creating the different messages that Sam would be receiving through the two days. We came up with funny messages from each of the characters. You can see Caroline boasting about the funding that she got sanctioned, FTX team members praising the orgies, CZ with his tactics and in the web 3 “news” reporter Nick supposedly poking his nose around Sam’s getaway place in the Bahamas. It was a hilarious session of coming up with different texts that they may have sent to each other.
Finally, we had a cover artwork depicting a sensual, scandalous and dirty story in the most memetic way possible. The audio that we have added to the various scenes are the cherry toppings on the cover. We hope you enjoyed this cover artwork as much as we did making it!
