This week we saw the Defi giants Uniswap sweeping in to acquire Genie.xyz. We took this opportunity to create artwork in a kawaii style that shows a cute Unicorn amongst many other cute things.

Red came to the discussion with a suggestion to create this one in Kawaii style, which is a Japanese style that is cute. In fact, “Kawaii” means “cute” in Japanese. The idea was to show a Unicorn spitting out UCDC bonbons and surrounded by several other condiments. The UCDC bonbons are in reference to the $5m airdrop they did once the acquisition was over. 

After studying several illustrations we made a rough sketch depicting all the elements we wanted to show. Next, we got to sketching in this style that uses clean lines and a pinkish palette. Once the illustration was created we took it to AE where Dudly added some magic and of course J-Pop music to accompany it. 

Another interesting fact about this week’s cover is that we used Japanese text for the logo we were actually worried whether Google did a good job translating. Thankfully we had Arigato, a long-time friend and supporter of Redlion confirm that is perfect on time.
