🥳 Happy Birthday, Gazette!
Wau. We made it. We can proudly say we have been publishing for more than a year now. Yes, we walked a long way from the first Genesis Gazette made by Redlioneye for fun, qash*, and #rarigang community entertainment to an almost polished product we will probably never stop improving.
My Cover Art 1st Anniversary is coming in 10 weeks, so I already need to start thinking about the concept and form of #62. And, we are also discussing the overall direction of the next season of weekly cover arts, how to handle eventual artist collaborations, and the urgent need to acquire "Dudly Junior" so I can rest on Sunday from time to time 😇. I prefer teamwork before solo running, so working on our project with other passionate guys is a perfect fit for me, and I love it.
But let's find out how this all begun:
It started with this beauty on the left! Redlion(eye) Gazette 1st edition. Would you ever imagine such NFT can sparkle an exciting project?
Me neither, but I was stupid enough to buy an issue of Gazette #8, which is more admirable than #1, but I was very curious what it had inside. Well, it was even more hideous than the cover, but the reading was fantastic.
So I made a move and executed the magic spell: "Luck Is What Happens When Preparation Meets Opportunity." I got in touch with Red, and we have discussed how we can upgrade Gazette from homegrown aesthetics to something more visually appealing. First, we introduced a simple website and later also our first subscription service model.
And here we are now with Gazette #52...
Making of #52
We had the idea for a throwback tabloid cover for more than 10 weeks. The execution is quite simple for a skilled designer. But for a gossip mag cover, you need a gossipy story. That is why we messed the 51 issue drop and deployed 4 contracts instead of just one (😂kidding). Read the excellent explanation article "How We Messed Up".
Lesson learnt from mistakes we made, but at least the messed drop drama offered great subject for a gossip cover main article highlight. Followed by other articles' boxes with various collages, the making took approx 5-6 hours. Easy-peasy.
"That is how issue #1 should have looked like," Red told me after seeing #52 for the first time. Honestly, I had a lot of fun creating a throwback cover, but at the same time, I am happy that the next tabloid will be Gazette issue #104 next year.
Big thanks to everyone who has been with us from the beginning or even only from the latest issue. The continuous and strong support we are getting is pushing us forward.
Let's set sail for next year.
